Contract

Crater was an AI assistant designed to understand a users habits, suggest useful actions, and complete tasks across email and the web.

I initially joined to redesign Craters AI-native mail client, with my work later expanding into settings, intelligent digests, and onboarding. As the company changed direction, I helped reshape Crater into an ambient assistant that lived in the MacBook notchredesigning its primary interface, floating task cards, and final onboarding experience.

AN AI-NATIVE INBOX

Crater combined a familiar email experience with an agent capable of reading, composing, organising, and acting on messages. I redesigned the core mail client alongside its supporting settings and interaction patterns.

PROACTIVE SUGGESTIONS

Crater used email and calendar context to identify what required attention and suggest useful next steps. Digest experiences turned incoming activity into concise summaries, suggested tasks, and quick actions.

AN AMBIENT ASSISTANT

Crater later moved beyond the inbox, becoming a lightweight assistant that could be summoned from the MacBook notch while working in any application.

I redesigned this compact interface around composing requests, reviewing suggestions, and accessing active tasks.

MAKING AGENT WORK VISIBLE

Floating task cards showed what the agent was doing, its current step, and the outcome of its work.

The cards moved between compact and expanded states, revealing additional context or requesting input when needed.

INTRODUCING THE NEW CRATER

I concluded the project by designing an interactive onboarding flow for the new product. The experience introduced Crater’s global shortcut, contextual awareness, suggestions, and task execution.
